We stayed in Corfu for 3 weeks and enjoyed so many different, delicious local dishes it is quite difficult to list them all but thing to definitely try:
Lamb or pork souvlaki – delicious skewers of cubed meat usually served with rice AND fried potatoes – double carbs right!
Greek Salad – they know what they are doing, vegetables just taste so fresh and like they were getting ready in the full Greek sunshine, incomparable to the veg grown in colder climates.
Pastitsada – pasta dish with meaty sauce – usually beef (though historically it was horse!). It is with rich tomato, red sauce with a hint of cinnamon – quite acquired taste for some but definitely worth a try.
Bianco – white fish with white, lemon sauce and potatoes – surprisingly all white as it says on the tin – quite difficult to find but when you do (was in Salto wine bar as special) it is super light and fresh
Sofrito – usually veal in rich garlic sauce – you can find in in many local restaurants
Bourdeto – rich, tomatoes, spicy fish stew, usually made with scorpion fish (please see my post on Ortholithi where you can see some pictures)
Gemista – stuffed peppers and tomatoes and usually meat
Skordalia – a potato dip made with potatoes (obviously) and lots (and I mean LOTS) of garlic and olive oil (please see my post on TA PSARAKIA TSI GARITSAS – CORFU TOWN for some pictures)
Saganaki – fired Greek cheese – amazing and rich and exactly what you expect – soft gooey cheesy goodness. However shrimp saganaki is a very fragrant shrimp stew, full of star anis and other aromatics.
Any fried / grilled fish and seafood – you can find amazing selection of grilled, deep fried and grilled fresh fish and seafood
Tsipouro – is a Greek brandy, similar to Hungarian palinka or Spanish aguardiente – strong enough to melt your mouth – does wonders if you had too much food and want to have little digestive,
Ouzo – dry, anise flavoured aperitif – this sambuca but not sweet,
