It’s getting harder and harder to recover from a night out these days, though getting wiser and drinking less wine doesn’t seem to sink in!
During my travels I am always trying to find new, exciting culinary adventures and my Friday date was exactly that.
Becoming a member of The Nudge recently suddenly opened all these amazing doors (literally, check out the secret vaults!), so in one of the newsletters I found out about Jimmy’s bbq club. Jimmy Garcia has been branded the pop up king and oh boy isn’t it true. After being a sell out summer last year, the venue reopened on the 18th of May in an impressively large garden in Clapham. Do not look for a fancy restaurant or signs leading you to the venue – it is taking place in a residential road with a little ‘secret garden’ sign between the houses (how exciting!) There was an honesty bar with amazing cocktails mixed with the ingredients from the garden, good wine, great wine, bubbles, selection of beer and also BYOB which in my case ended up with a massive headache pretty much all Saturday (I very rarely cry I need my mum, but I sure did on Saturday).
We all have been seated with green egg at each table so we can all cook half of the ingredients for our meal.
We had seven courses, including beef tail fillets marinaded in cola and soy with raw kimchi; charred peach and hay smoked goats curd salad with mint oil and pomegranate; seared tuna steaks with soft boiled duck eggs, samphire, and lemon potatoes; BBQ’d marshmallows and s’mores; and a ton more with an extra scallop course for The Nudge members. It was a great fun to cook ourselves, the more we drank the less we know what we were doing (including myself setting my marshmallow on fire and almost incinerating my eyebrows).
As for food, it was OK, all courses needed a little bit of salt, olive oil etc but as a whole experience was amazing! Wine was great, company was hilarious and all staff and Jimmy were so accommodating and fantastic they made us all feel like we knew each other for years (loads of cuddles and happy tears).
Definitely something I’d recommend, especially for a larger group of friends.
