Sicilia

It’s been one exciting July…after months of being trapped in a bubble (not literally, that’d be weird!), we went for a well deserved holiday. Not for a week…not even for 2, but fantastic sunny 19 days of pasta, pizza and wine- we went to Sicily! It is safe to say after clean eating for months my body gone into a shock and doubled the size being fed carbs, ice cream and full fat (sugar) coke. I got myself few achevements unlocked- snorkeling, diving and even swimming in 80m deep sea, I guess I can say my absolute fear of water, if not completely gone, is definitely on the way to leave me alone for good. We have tried all possible ice cream (gelato in brioche oh sweet Jesus), coffees,  all variates of pasta- with fish, prawns, squid ink, hundreds of variations of cheeses, hams and sausages and pizzas- truly amazed I do not have to replace my whole wardrobe but also hoping back to healthy living will make me lose all the pizzas from my hips.

Weather was absolutely amazing (…apart from the hottest day of the year and the power cut in the whole of the town that killed our hotel A/C for almost all night)- not a sight of a cloud all that time, and ridiculously hot sun, but hotel pool was always available and if we needed extra refreshment, sea was just few steps down from the pool.

After probably a week of doing absolutely nothing we went exploring our surroundings a little, both day and night time (I will never…ever have jäger bomb again…ever), with fantastic markets during the day that were turning into little drinking/ eating dives at night with boiled octopus and local famous spleen sandwich (attempted one at 4am after too many shots of ‘Dutch courage’ and I can say I am glad it is not something I can find in UK as it was just so bad…). We have also met the most amazing people who made our stay extra special.

Back in UK now, partially happy as I could not look at fish, pasta or pizza any more, but it’s definitely hard to adjust to waking up at 6am (not going to sleep), working (this concept is still totally alien to me) and rushing through the crowds to get on a train (urghhh…).

Planning what’s next :D
